L’Estat de la Ciència a Catalunya és un informe biennal que neix de la necessitat de disposar de dades actualitzades de la recerca i la innovació catalana, i analitzar, de forma sistemàtica i contextualitzada, els seus resultats a nivell europeu. A partir de les dades i indicadors més rellevants, aportades pels diferents agents del sistema de recerca i innovació, es posa en relleu l’estat de la nostra recerca, detectant-ne tant les fortaleses com els punts de millora, permetent alhora apreciar-ne l’evolució al llarg del temps.

El informe analiza la partida de los Presupuesto Generales del Estado (PG46) procedente de fondos europeos y destaca grietas fundamentales en el sistema de financiación pública de la ciencia en España, que dificultan alcanzar los objetivos de la UE.

The European Innovation Scoreboard provides a comparative analysis of innovation performance in EU countries, other European countries, and regional neighbours. The 2022 edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) shows that innovation performance e has increased for the EU as a whole (by about 10%) and almost all Member States since 2015. Performance has increased most in Cyprus, Estonia and Greece. For two Emerging Innovators, Croatia and Poland, innovation performance has grown faster than the EU average.

This report presents results from an international online survey demonstrating that researchers around the world perceive a decrease in support for fundamental science in the context of increased support for applied research. As a result, their decisions about the direction of research programmes have changed.

Utility patents granted to residents are one measure of a location's innovative activity. Utility patents are used to provide protection to novel and potentially useful inventions. The number of total utility patents issued to residents in 2020 was greatest in China, Japan, and South Korea. The percentage of these total patents by location that is granted in semiconductors and other communication technologies indicates a location's focus in these key technologies.

What is the direction of innovation? As the world looks to rebuild from the pandemic, innovation has a crucial role to play in opening up new growth possibilities and creating much needed solutions to the common challenges we face. Decisions on innovation may be complex, but, as this report highlights, it is vital that they are understood.
