In the context of the COVID-19, the Conference initially planned in Bratislava in June 2020 is postponed to September 29-30 and October 1 and the format becomes online.

In preparation for the Call 2020 (to be open in December) and the Call Open Science (publication date TBA), the national and regional research funding organisations of CHIST-ERA invite scientists to participate in the definition of the calls at the CHIST-ERA Conference 2020.

The conference is organised online on September 29-30 and October 1 by UKRI, the British funding partner of CHIST-ERA. A session dedicated to the recording of the conference keynote talks is planned online on September 25 and is open to the participants. The programme of the keynote talks is available at the bottom of this webpage.

The programme features a combination of plenary and facilitated break-out sessions, high-level keynote talks (password: Chist25#) by internationally renowned scientists and specialists, shorter talks and poster presentations to identify and formulate the most promising challenges for the topics of the calls. This event represents a unique opportunity for the scientific community to directly participate in scoping the calls topics content and exchange their views on the future of the domains with their peers. Many successful CHIST-ERA proposals have been initiated at CHIST-ERA conferences.

The conference is also a networking event that allows potential applicants to set the basis for future collaborations. A specific information session on the rules of participation to CHIST-ERA calls is proposed and applicants are offered the possibility to pitch their project proposal.

Important dates
Short talk abstract submission extended deadline: September 15
Notification of accepted abstracts: September 18
Registration deadline: September 25

The two research topics of the Call 2020 are:

  • Advanced Brain-Computer Interfaces for Novel Interactions (BCI)
  • Towards Sustainable ICT (S-ICT)

The topic of the Call Open Science is:

  • Research Practices and Open Research Data (ORD)

Preliminary topic descriptions for the Call 2020 have been published here. The description of the Call Open Science topic is published here. The same web page provides also the anticipated country participation. After the conference, the outcomes of the conference discussions will be integrated into the topics description, which will constitute the scientific text of the official Call 2020 and Call Open Science announcements.

The conference is divided into four parts. On September 25 a webinar is organised to record the keynote talks of the conference. These recordings will be made available to the participants in advance of the conference. The webinar will be open to the attendees. September 29 is dedicated to the topic Advanced Brain-Computer Interfaces for Novel Interactions, September 30 explores the topic Towards Sustainable ICT promising research directions, and October 1 gathers Open Science specialists to exchange on the challenges of Research Practices and Open Research Data. A programme overview is presented in the table below and the abstracts of the talks and posters will be made available here.

In addition to joining the facilitated break-out sessions, the participants are encouraged to contribute with a poster (in PDF format) and/or by proposing a short talk (10-12'). The extended deadline for proposing a short talk is September 15. The short talks will be selected by the Conference Organising Committee by September 18.
The BCI, S-ICT and ORD Short Talks Programmes are now available at the bottom of this page.
