This report has been prepared in the context of the Mutual Learning Exercise (MLE) on research and innovation foresight (R&I foresight), a process led by the European Commission DG RTD. The report aims to identify and discuss good practices in the use of foresight for smart specialisation, missions and European partnerships.

Experimenting with Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) is critical to find new and better ways of contributing to a Green Transition. This policy brief draws on theoretical and practical perspectives of TIP informed policy experimentation and makes 6 recommendations that suggest how European R&I policy making can be improved by it.

The study aims to provide evidence of system methods that can be used in the policy cycle to address complexity and support systemic transitions through transformative innovation policy. To do so the study provides a review of system methods and an evaluation of their application and added value at the different stages of the policy cycle. It concludes with key some recommendations on how to ensure the uptake of system methods in the R&I policy cycle.

L’objectiu d’aquest document és identificar i analitzar exemples d’iniciatives i pràctiques existents a Catalunya impulsades per la ciutadania, o amb una implicació activa de la ciutadania, que aspiren a contribuir a les transformacions sistèmiques prioritzades per la RIS3CAT 2030 i poden servir d’inspiració a les iniciatives de recerca i innovació transformativa de la RIS3CAT 2030.

In 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” containing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve a sustainable, fair, and inclusive future for people worldwide by 2030. With less than 10 years left, Science, technology, and innovation (STI) are among the key enablers for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda’s ambitions. This report provides first evidence of the emergence of scientific research that jointly studies SDGs and Digital Technologies (DTs).

There are various guidelines for authorship, but with no clear definition, and with tacitly agreed standards which vary between disciplines, it is often not clear what contribution each person has made to the specific project, and this can lead to authorship disputes. In this LERU paper, we aim to develop a common understanding of what responsible and equitable authorship is, by using the four principles of the ALLEA Code (Reliability, Honesty, Respect and Accountability), as a basis.

This report analyses the career options of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. It identifies policies and practices to promote diverse careers, flexible career trajectories and ultimately better-quality research and innovation across different economic and social sectors.

The publication offers concrete recommendations for policy-makers and education institutions on how the uses of GenAI tools can be designed to protect human agency and genuinely benefit students, teachers and researchers.
