La tecnologia d'Impressió 3D es refereix a un conjunt de tecnologies que permeten crear objectes volumètrics a partir de models digitals. Es tracta d’una tecnologia a l’alça i amb previsions de creixement exponencial a molts sectors econòmics, i que a Catalunya ja compta amb 156 empreses que n’ofereixen serveis i productes.

This report addresses researcher skills, as part of a series of three feedback to policy reports, that take stock of the progress and promising practices generated by a selection of EU-funded projects on skills, research assessment reform and the R&I activities of the Horizon 2020 ‘Science with and for Society’ (SWAFS) projects supporting the alliances. This report is the first to capture contributions of EU-funded projects on skills development since the launch of the European competence framework for researchers (ResearchComp) website in 2023. It gives an overview of the progress achieved so far, on the basis of emerging and interim activities and outputs. However, it only includes the early-stage developments; further activities, outputs and outcomes in the area are likely to develop at a fast pace in the coming years.

This report addresses the contributions of projects funded by Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe to the reform of research assessment practices. It is part of a series of three reports, produced in parallel, that take stock of the progress and promising practices generated by a selection of EU-funded projects on skills, research assessment reform and by the research and innovation (R&I) activities of the Horizon 2020 ‘Science with and for Society’ (SwafS) projects supporting the European University Alliances (hereafter alliances). This report is the first to capture contributions of EU-funded projects on research assessment since the publication of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment in 2021.

This technical report focuses on innovation in biotechnologies (biotech), as captured by patented inventions worldwide. The study analyses international patents filed at multiple offices, at least two of which belonging to the IP5 consortium. Moreover, it relies on expert knowledge collected by the OECD to select the inventions connected to biotechnologies.

La pandemia volvió a poner de manifiesto la necesidad de invertir en investigación, innovación y tecnología para desarrollar productos y servicios que ayuden a afrontar los retos que se le presentan a la sociedad. En esta tarea, las empresas emergentes están llamadas a jugar un papel clave, particularmente las digitales. Este monográfico aborda el crecimiento de estas compañías y los retos sociales, económicos, políticos y normativos que enfrenta el emprendimiento digital.

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas. 1,559 institutions have been ranked across these subjects this year, with 64 universities debuting (i.e. having not been included in the 2023 edition).

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has profound implications for intellectual property (IP) frameworks. While much of the discussion so far has focused on the legal implications, we focus on the economic dimension. We dissect AI's role as both a facilitator and disruptor of innovation and creativity. Recalling economic principles and reviewing relevant literature, we explore the evolving landscape of AI innovation incentives and the challenges it poses to existing IP frameworks. From patentability dilemmas to copyright conundrums, we find that there is a delicate balance between fostering innovation and safeguarding societal interests amidst rapid technological progress. We also point to areas where future economic research could offer valuable insights to policymakers.
