This report presents the findings of the 2020-2021 EUA Open Science Survey and provides evidence-based recommendations for institutions, researchers, research funders and policy makers on the transition towards Open Science. With more than 270 responses from 36 European countries, the survey report focuses on the level of development of Open Science in European universities. It also addresses the role of Open Science in institutions’ strategic priorities and its implementation in institutional practices.

However, reasonably little is known about the existence of Citizen Science initiatives and strategies in support to policy making. This includes questions, such as, where do such initiatives takeplace, on which basis are they launched and carried out, what are the drivers and challenges they face, and who are the involved actors?

In support of the Coordinated Plan on Artificial Intelligence, the European Commission has launched the AI Watch initiative, the European Commission knowledge service to monitor the development, uptake and impact of AI for Europe, implemented by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in close coordination with DG CONNECT. Monitoring and analysing national AI strategies is in the core of AI Watch’s mandate and goals. This report gathers information on EU Member States’ AI policies.

The OECD SME and Entrepreneurship Outlook 2021 brings new evidence on the impact of the crisis and policy responses on SMEs and entrepreneurs. It reflects on longer-term issues, such as SME indebtedness or SME role in more resilient supply chains or innovation diffusion. The report contains country profiles that benchmark impact, factors of vulnerability, and sources of resilience in OECD countries, and give a policy spotlight on liquidity support and recovery plans for SMEs.
Ethics and governance of artificial intelligence for health - World Health Organization (WHO) [+]
The report identifies the ethical challenges and risks with the use of artificial intelligence of health, six consensus principles to ensure AI works to the public benefit of all countries. It also contains a set of recommendations that can ensure the governance of artificial intelligence for health maximizes the promise of the technology and holds all stakeholders – in the public and private sector – accountable and responsive to the healthcare workers who will rely on these technologies and the communities and individuals whose health will be affected by its use.
